Junior Firefighter (16-17):
A Junior Firefighter is a member who is 16 or 17 years of age and is still attending high school. Junior Firefighters are allowed to respond to incidents and are allowed to attend weekly training (Tuesday at 7:30PM). However, Junior Firefighters have time restrictions regarding when they can attend calls and how long they can be at the firehouse. When you join the Washingtonville Fire Department as a Junior Firefighter you will have to complete a 6 month probationary period. During this time you are required to meet a certain quota of calls, training, and company meetings (First Tuesday every month). Junior Firefighters are prohibited from being interior qualified. However, a junior member can attend county training classes so once they turn the age of 18 and graduate high school they can become interior qualified.
