At 0800 Truck 579 was dispatched as part of the first alarm to Little Britain Road in the New Windsor area of Maybrook Fire District for a house on fire. Truck 579 with a crew of 5 and Car 1 (Skelly) responded within 3 minutes of dispatch. T-579 arrived as the second piece of apparatus just behind Maybrook’s engine to find a bi-level house with fire on the second floor and through the roof. A second alarm was dispatched which also brought Washingtonville Tanker 577 to the scene. T-579’s crew split with 2 members throwing portable ladders and 2 members beginning a search within the house. Due to the instability of the roof area on the exposure 4 side of the house the crew from T-579 made access to the second floor via a portable ladder. The crews from Maybrook and Washingtonville had the bulk of the fire knocked within 10 minutes. Additional units from the first and second alarms assisted in opening and hitting hot spots. Units from Washingtonville returned to service in just under 2 hours.
